While more people are working later in life because of happy things like longer life expectancy, they are also doing so because of very sad things, like a lack of Social Security benefits or retirement plans.
I have a hard time writing happy things. I really just don't find it that interesting for me personally to write about that.
I certainly tried to talk about less complex things, but I've had to accept that it's just not what I do. That isn't to say that my shows are depressing - they aren't. At least, I hope they aren't! The problem I have with stories about happy things is that they don't require any skill from a comic - they just repeat the details verbatim.
With any group of people in life, sad things happen, and crazy things, and happy things. When you're in the public eye, it's just amplified, that's all.
My favorite song of ours has to be 'Feel Special.' It was a little different than our bright songs that talk about love and general happy things, but we thought the song had a special message.
