My dad did a radio show. I was on it when I was seven. So now you know that the showbiz bug bit me really early.
I got bitten by the free software bug in February of 1998 around the time of the Mozilla announcement.
I got hit by the bug of reading - not via a person, but via the one-room library in our small town. I remember that the children's books were in the right-hand corner near the floor. Often when I went there, I was the only visitor.
I got the writing bug in the fourth grade when a poem of mine was published in the school newspaper. Music criticism came a little later, when I was in high school.
You know my girls are so funny. You're out in the country and there are critters everywhere and they get a little like, 'Oh my God! Oh no, bugs!' and I had to say, 'Honey this is fine. This is their world and it's all part of being in the country.' I realized, 'Oh my God, my girls are really city girls.'
I certainly wasn't the kind of kid that grew up collecting bugs and spiders.
