It's one of those things when you're down in the red area, a lot of teams double me. Two-man, guys sit underneath me, so I can't really slant. They have a safety kind of cheated out, as far as the fade balls and things like that. But when we get our opportunities, we've got to make people pay.

I don't feel like my films are about gender; they are about identity - but a different slant on identity.

Life doesn't just happen; it's constructed through the history of power. And that's something I am interested in and so is the art world: a world that's trying to engage socially, with a leftist slant, to work out how we got here.

I can't remove the autobiographical slant from the things I write. You always bring yourself into what you're writing.

Almost any football play, even an off-tackle slant by a running back, offers the balletic beauty of athletic skill and the punishing drama of physical collision.

But the rising chorus urging ESPN to change its stripes is missing something: The intersection of sports and politics is natural. And the left-wing lean of ESPN is inevitable. Conservatives bothered by the slant should stop hand-wringing and start their own network.

I made records in the past that are as traditional as any other country records that have been made, but at the same time the records have a contemporary slant on it too.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: Are you familiar with the study of graphology?
Professor Moriaty: I have never given it any serious thought, no.
Sherlock Holmes: The psychological analysis of handwriting. The upwards strokes on the p, the j, the m indicate a genius level intellect. The flourishes on the lower zone denote a highly creative yet

meticulous nature. But if one observes the overall slant and pressure of the handwriting there is a suggestion of acute narcissism, a complete lack of empathy, and pronounced inclination toward...
Professor Moriaty: No!
Sherlock Holmes: ...moral insanity.

[Joe talks to the crying Patricia in the mirrored motel room]
Gigolo Joe: [Joe see's the bruises on Patricia's shoulders] Are these the wounds of passion?
Patricia in Mirrored Room: [Patricia has tears in her eyes nodding side-to-side, as Joe clicks on some music with the slant of his head, Patricia starts to smile again] Do you hear that music?

Gigolo Joe: [a Dick Powell song continues to play as Joe lays Patricia back in the bed with a kiss] You... are a goddess, Patricia. You wind me up inside. But you deserve so much better in your life. You deserve... me.

[Britt, in his mind, is putting together the pieces between his father, Chudnofsky and Scanlon]
James Reid: Think, Britt. You can figure this out, my son, with your brains.
Britt Reid: Okay, two years ago, Scanlon decides to run for DA. He says he's cleaning up the streets of L.A., which is impossible. So he asked the media to slant the news. And you

go along with it like everybody else?
James Reid: No way. l refused.
Britt Reid: So he... Shit! What does he do? So Scanlon decides to go really dirty. Makes a pact with a criminal. Chudnofsky kills your reporter. Vertolibe? Vertoleeb?
James Reid: I didn't want more bloodshed, so I stopped reporting on crime.

Britt Reid: Scanlon can hold up his part of the deal, keeping the media under control, and Chudnofsky does whatever he wants! But Chudnofsky had a different plan. He wanted to take over all the gangs of L.A. So that's when you decided to cut the strings.
James Reid: I couldn't look in the mirror. I hated every word I said to you that morning, Britt.

Britt Reid: So you start reporting on crime again. And now Scanlon is a dead man unless he proves he's still in control. He has no choice but to organize a meeting with you, and he kills you himself. In the end, you stood up for what's right, Dad. Now l have to do the same.
