I chose to buy a house in Montauk because it has a sleepier vibe than the rest of the East End. I also felt that I would run into city people in East Hampton and wanted more of a buffer.
The most important thing to Ben and me was starting a family, so as soon as we got engaged, we booked Gurney's in Montauk - which is just a few miles down the beach from our summer home - as our wedding venue a full year and a half out, and then we immediately started trying to get pregnant.
[Clementine and Joel have broken into an empty house on the Montauk beach]
Joel: I think we should go.
Clementine: No, it's our house! Just for tonight...
[she looks at an envelope on the counter]
Clementine: ...we are David and Ruth Laskin. Which one do you want to be? I prefer to be Ruth, but I'm flexible.
Clementine: HEY! Lets go out dancing! You want to go out to Montauk with me?
Patrick: Montauk?
Clementine: Yeah, NO! Come out to Boston with me!
Patrick: Sure, we can go next weekend.
Clementine: NO! Now! Now! I have to go see the frozen Charles NOW!
Billy Joel: Well, I'm on the Downeaster "Alexa"/ and I'm cruising through Block Island Sound/ I have charted a Course for the Vineyard/ but tonight I am Nantucket bound/ took on diesel back in Montauk yesterday/ left this morning from the bell in Gardiners Bay/ like all the locals here I've had to sell my home/ too proud to leave I worked my fingers to the bone/so I could own my Downeaster
"Alexa"/ Ay-yi-oh-oh!
