We learned about people like Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington and Marian Anderson. Harriet Tubman was my favorite.

That problem has been going on since men and women and their children moved from the plains and into caves. How many times have you heard Howard Cunningham talking to Marian about shopping? Too many.

Whether one is Marian or Charismatic or both, or prays in one or more of the many other ways open to us, it is all a flow of love, if the heart is truly speaking to and listening to the Holy Trinity. Personally, I pray the Divine Mercy chaplet every day. We pray the Rosary every day in our family.

I grew up in St. Louis in a tiny house full of large music - Mahalia Jackson and Marian Anderson singing majestically on the stereo, my German-American mother fingering 'The Lost Chord' on the piano as golden light sank through trees, my Palestinian father trilling in Arabic in the shower each dawn.

A show that I loved as a kid was 'Maid Marian And Her Merry Men'. It was a really strong female character making fun of the boys, an inversion of gender politics. But it was very funny, too. I always wanted to be one of the village people messing about in the mud and being stinky.

Authors don't tend to stay with the same agents and editors over their entire lifetimes, but Grafton worked with Marian Wood, her editor at Putnam, from Kinsey's first outing, and signed with Molly Friedrich, still her literary agent, with the publication of 'B Is for Burglar.'

Friar Tuck: By the power vested in me, by God's holy church, I say let any man who has reason why these two should not be joined, let him speak now or forever hold his peace.
[silence]
Friar Tuck: Then, I now pronounce you...
King Richard: Hold, I speak!
[Everyone turns around to see knights coming]

Marian: Richard!
[Everyone, except Marian and a confused Azeem, kneels]
King Richard: I will not allow this wedding to proceed...
Robin Hood: [gets up] My lord...
King Richard: Unless...! I'm allowed to give the bride away. You look radiant, cousin.
Marian: Oh, Richard.

[they exchange kisses on the cheeks]
Robin Hood: We are deeply honored, Your Majesty.
King Richard: [shakes his hand] It is I who am honored, Lord Locksley. Thanks to you, I still have a throne. Friar, proceed!
Friar Tuck: [rising from his knees] My liege.
[clears throat]
Friar Tuck: ... Husband

and wife. You may kiss the bride.
Robin Hood: I know that.
[They kiss, and everyone cheers. The camera shifts to the Friar, who breaks the fourth wall and looks at the camera]
Friar Tuck: Now get out of it! We waste good celebration time!
[laughs]

[the Sheriff is preparing to rape Marian to impregnate her, even as Robin and Azeem are trying to break down the door]
Sheriff of Nottingham: I can't do this with all that racket!

[after Sarah and Marian get the better of Bull and his companion, they bring them to meet Robin]
Robin Hood: What happened to your eye, Bull?
Bull: We were set upon by, like, ten...
Much the Miller's Son: Uh, 12!
Bull: 15 large, big lads.
Sarah: Oh, yeah?

Bull: Yeah!
