The sand as white
as old bones, the pine trees
strangely red where the sun comes down.
I cannot say if it is our love,
or the day, that is ending.
And yet, today the harbour is silted up, most of the city lies buried beneath sand dunes and the land has become a desert. As the population had grown and more people wanted more fields, so more of the forest that once stood around the city was cut down, until eventually it was all gone. With no roots to hold the soil, and no attempt to conserve it, it was carried away by the wind and the rain.
For the faults of the many, judge not the whole. Everything on earth is of mixed character, like a mingling of sand and sugar. Be like the wise ant which seizes only the sugar, and leaves the sand untouched.
"Wenn es kein Fleisch gab, aßen wir Geflügel. Wenn es kein Geflügel gab, aßen wir Langusten. Wenn es keine Langusten gab, aßen wir Sand." – "Was habt ihr gegessen?" – "Wir aßen Sand." – "Ihr habt Sand gegessen?" – "Richtig."
Obelix: "Wo haben die nur den vielen Sand her?"
Asterix: "Der war schon da, Obelix."
"Alles was...was wir ihrer Familie zukommen lassen, wird von dem Mann in den Sand gesetzt oder verschwendet. Sieh sie dir doch an. Sie ist dünn geworden. Wahrscheinlich sind die Nerven schuld daran. Wenn ich nicht mehr da bin, dann nimmst du meinen Platz ein. Pass auf, dass sie zunimmt." – "Ich hab das Gefühl, du wirst nie von hier weggehn, ok?" – "Wir müssen alle irgendwann gehen."
Hier kommt immer mehr Sand rein.
