I really should have been a pharaoh - do you know that?

Here is the operating motto of the Obama White House: 'So let it be written, so let it be done!' Like Yul Brynner's Pharaoh Ramses character in Cecil B. DeMille's 'The Ten Commandments,' the demander in chief stands with arms akimbo issuing daily edicts to his constitution-subverting minions.

People who know very little about ancient Egypt are most likely, if they know anything at all, to have at least a vague idea about the Pharaoh Akhenaten and be able to recognize the face of his beautiful wife, Nefertiti.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Brody: However, an Egyptian pharaoh...
Indiana: Shishak.
Brody: ...yes, invaded the city of Jerusalem round about 980 B.C., and he may have take the Ark back to the city of Tanis and hidden it in a secret chamber called The Well of Souls.
Major Eaton: [skeptically] Secret chamber?

Brody: However, about a year after the pharaoh had returned to Egypt, the city of Tanis was consumed by the desert in a sand storm which lasted a whole year. Wiped clean by the wrath of God.
Major Eaton: [turns slowly toward Col. Musgrove] Uh... huh.
Colonel Musgrove: Obviously, we've come to the right men. Now you seem to know, uh,

all about this Tanis, then.
Indiana: No, no, not really. Ravenwood is the real expert. Abner did the first serious work on Tanis. Collected some of its relics. It was his obsession, really. But he never found the city.
Major Eaton: Frankly, we're somewhat suspicious of Mr. Ravenwood, an American being mentioned so prominently in a secret Nazi cable.

Brody: Oh, rubbish. Ravenwood's no Nazi.
Colonel Musgrove: Well, what do the Nazis want him for then?
Indiana: Well, obviously, the Nazis are looking for the headpiece to Staff of Ra and they think Abner's got it.
Major Eaton: What exactly is a headpiece to the Staff of Ra?

Indiana: Well, the staff is just a stick. I don't know, about this big. Nobody really knows for sure how high. And it's...
[turns blackboard to blank side]
Indiana: it's, uh... it's capped with an elaborate headpiece in the shape of the sun with a crystal in the center. And what you did was, you take the staff to a special room in Tanis, a map room

with a miniature of the city all laid out on the floor. And if you put the staff in a certain place at a certain time of day, the sun shone through here and made beam that came down on the floor here... and gave you the exact location of the Well of the Souls.
Colonel Musgrove: Where the Ark of the Covenant was kept, right?.
Indiana: That's exactly

what the Nazis are looking for.
Major Eaton: Now what does this Ark look like?
Indiana: Uh... there's a picture of it right here.
[opens a book on the table]
Indiana: That's it.
[they all look at an illustration of the Hebrews devastating their enemy with the Ark]
Major Eaton: Good God!

Brody: Yes, that's just what the Hebrews thought.
Colonel Musgrove: [pointing to a beam of light] Uh, now what's that supposed to be coming out of there?
Indiana: Lightning. Fire. Power of God or something.
Major Eaton: I'm beginning to understand Hitler's interest in this.

Brody: Oh, yes. The Bible speaks of the Ark leveling mountains and laying waste to entire regions. An army which carries the Ark before it... is invincible.

Ardeth Bay: [narrating] Thebes, City of the Living, crown jewel of Pharaoh Seti the First. Home of Imhotep, Pharaoh's high priest, keeper of the dead. Birthplace of Anck Su Namun, Pharaoh's mistress. No other man was allowed to touch her. But for their love, they were willing to risk life itself.

Evelyn: [to Dr. Bey about the map to Hamunaptra] You see the cartouche there? It's the official royal seal of Seti the First, I'm sure of it.
Dr. Bey: Perhaps.
Jonathan: Two questions. Who the hell was Seti the First, *and* was he rich?
Evelyn: He was the second pharaoh of the 19th dynasty, said to be the

wealthiest pharaoh of them all.
Jonathan: Good. That's good. I like this fellow. I like him very much.

Pharaoh Seti I: [speaking in Ancient Eygyptian] What are you doing here?
Pharaoh Seti I: [walks up staring to her and see Anck Su Namun and then points at her] Who has touched you?
[She looks at her arm, and looks at him in front of Imhotep taking his sword]
Pharaoh Seti I: [speaking Ancient Egyptian] Imhotep? My Priest!

[Anck Su Namun stabs him in the back. Imhoteb swinged and stabed him in the body. His priests looks at the Pharaoh killed by Imhoteb and Anck Su Namun. They saw and heard a bang on the door]
Imhotep: [speaking Ancient Egyptian] Pharaoh's bodyguards.

Anck Su Namun: [speaking

Imhotep: [serious in Ancient Egyptian] No!
Anck Su Namun: [continues speaking Ancient Egyptian] Only you can resurrect me.

Imhotep: [stress in Ancient Egyptian] I won't leave you! Get away from me!
Imhotep: [his

Imhotep: [shouting in Ancient Egyptian] I will ressurect YOU!
Anck Su Namun: [she saw Pharaoh's bodyguard and warns them in Ancient Egyptian] My body is no longer his temple.
[she begins to stab in her body when Imhotep was looking at her]

Ardeth Bay: [they begin racing deep into the dessert at night] To ressurect Anck Su Namun, Imhotep and his priest broke into her crypt and stole her body. They raced deep into dessert, taking Anck Su Namun's corpse to Hamunaptra, City of the Dead, ancient burial site for the sons of pharaohs and resting place for the wealth of Egypt.

Carl Fox: "There came into Egypt a Pharaoh who did not know."
Gordon Gekko: I beg your pardon, is that a proverb?
Carl Fox: No, a prophecy. The rich have been doing it to the poor since the beginning of time. The only difference between the Pyramids and the Empire State Building is the Egyptians didn't allow unions. I know what this

guy is all about, greed. He don't give a damn about Bluestar or the unions. He's in and out for the buck and he don't take prisoners.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life

Lara Croft: Reiss is going to use the orb to find Pandora's box.
Agent Stevens: Do you meen the Greek myth? Pandora's given a box by a God, told not to open it - she does and unleashes pain into the world?
Lara Croft: That's the Sunday school version, yes. How do you think life began? Shooting star? Primordial ooze? In 2300 BC an

Egyptian pharaoh found a place that he named The Cradle of Life where we, life, began. And there he found a box, the box which brought life to earth. The pharaoh opened the box but all that was left inside was the "Ramante" or anti-life: The plague which came as the companion to life.
Agent Stevens: Companion?
Lara Croft: Nature is about balance. All

the world comes in pairs - Yin and Yang, right and wrong, men and women; what's pleasure without pain?
Agent Calloway: What did this plague do?
Lara Croft: It levelled the pharaoh's army. The pharaoh's son dispatched his finest soldier to take the box and transport it to the end of the world. 2000 years later Alexander the Great reached India where

his army was ravaged by a plague after one of his men found a box amongst some remains.
Agent Stevens: India? That's where the pharaoh's man brought it?
Lara Croft: Mm. Alexander felt that the box was too powerful to be trusted to any man so he returned it to its home in The Cradle of Life and it has never been seen since.
Agent

Calloway: And this Cradle of Life is... where?
Lara Croft: No one knows. Alexander found it using a map that was with the box, a map he then hid from the world. But the name he gave this map was "mati" and the literal translation for the word "mati" is "eye. The orb is the map, hidden in the Luna Temple by Alexander and Reiss will use it to find Pandora's box and

when he does, when he opens it, he will unleash a weapon more powerful than you could ever imagine.
