Doc: It's my fault she got took. I never should have taken her to that town.
Meacham: No, no, no. Not your fault. You'll get her back. You're setting things right. Just got to have faith. That's all.
Doc: Faith. Yeah. God's been real swell to me. I don't mean no disrespect, preacher, but either he ain't up there or he don't like me
very much.
Meacham: Surely you don't expect the Lord to do everything for you, do you, Doc? You got to earn His presence. Then you got to recognize it and then you have to act on it.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: What are you all choked up about?
Emmett Taggart: I'm worried about my grandpa.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: Look. When I was just a little bit older than you are now, all this was Mexico. Word came that the Apaches was riding towards a settlement called Arivaca. My father wanted me to be a man, so made me ride out with the
garrison, banging on a drum. Boy, was I scared. Well, we got there, it was too late. They were all dead and the whole place was burnt down. This settler fella came crawling out of a burning cabin. He was bad. He knew he was gonna die. Burnt bad. He rolled over, looked up into my eyes, and he said "Kill me."
Emmett Taggart: What did you do?
[takes the knife from
Emmett's belt buckle]
Woodrow Dolarhyde: I took this knife off his belt and I slit his throat. Take it.
[Emmett takes the knife back]
Woodrow Dolarhyde: Be a man.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: You weren't gonna leave without saying goodbye, were you?
Jake Lonergan: I'm a wanted man.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: I could have sworn I saw Jake Lonergan die in those caves, didn't you, Sheriff?
Sheriff John Taggart: Damn shame. I was looking forward to hanging him myself.
[Doc and Jake standing over Meachum's grave to say something about him]
Doc: [gestures to Jake]
Jake Lonergan: You go ahead.
Doc: Uh... Lord... If there is such a thing as a soul, this man had a good one. Please protect it. Made me feel better. World was a better place for having him. Dust to dust, amen. How was that?
Jake Lonergan: Good words.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: [referring to Jake] That's the son of a bitch that stole my gold off the bullion coach. I want that man.
Sheriff John Taggart: You're gonna have to take it up with the judge in Santa Fe.
Woodrow Dolarhyde: I ain't going to Santa Fe. You give him to me now or I'm gonna take him.
Percy Dolarhyde: [to his father, after being kneed in the gonads by Jake Lonergan] He dry-gulched me!
